Collection: September Birthstones

For centuries, peridot (also known as chrysolite) was the traditional birthstone of September in Jewish, Spanish, Arab, Russian, and Italian cultures, while sardonyx was used in Roman and Polish traditions. Even in canonical English Bible translations, peridot is listed as September’s foundation stone. However, in 1912, the American National Retail Jewelers Association assigned sapphire to September without explanation, although some later biblical translations linked sapphire to this month in the breastplate of Aaron.
Peridot is a transparent green gemstone, often called the “evening emerald” due to its golden-green glow under artificial light. Considered a solar stone, it symbolizes energy, renewal, and emotional balance. Peridot is believed to enhance friendships, attract positive energy, and help with emotional healing, making it popular for stress relief, meditation, and mental clarity. It is also used in home protection, shielding against negativity when placed as décor.
Sapphire, on the other hand, has a wide range of meanings depending on its color:
• White & Pink Sapphire (Venus) – Linked to wealth, luxury, sensuality, and acquiring property.
• Yellow Sapphire (Jupiter) – Represents expansion, wisdom, prosperity, and spiritual growth.
• Blue Sapphire (Saturn) – Symbolizes discipline, stability, resilience, and structure.
Unlike peridot, which carries a consistent warm, solar energy, sapphires can have vastly different and even opposing influences depending on their hue.
