Why are red gemstones expensive – and only getting pricier?

Everyone knows that one of the most valuable gemstones in the world is the ruby. Finding a rich, vivid red, clean and transparent ruby is almost like winning the lottery. Top-quality rubies are incredibly rare, and their prices have already skyrocketed 🚀.

But here’s the catch: when rubies become too expensive, people start looking for alternatives. And what happens then? Prices for other red gemstones start rising too!

🔴 Pyrope garnets, once considered “semi-precious,” have already gone up significantly in price.

🔴 Spinel, long underrated, is now valued on par with sapphires.

🔴 Red tourmaline (rubellite) is gaining popularity fast, and its price is clearly not going down anytime soon.

Red has always symbolized power, passion, and wealth. People are drawn to this color, and with rubies in short supply, they’re ready to buy anything that even slightly resembles that deep red glow.

Which red gemstones are your favorite?
